🎓 Module 02: Lessons
2.1: What Do You Want from Your Course?
- Many first-time course creators make the mistake of building their course without having a clear idea of what that success looks like
- Building a course is like buying a house because what you want affects the type of course (or house) you need
- What you want from your course affects affects the whole course ecosystem – promise, programme, pipeline, promotion
2.2: Why Your Mission Matters
- Like Tom Cruise in Mission:Impossible you have to bring together the right assets and resources for the “mission” at hand
- Not every mission is a good fit for an online course – certain objectives can be achieved with a course, others can’t
- In order to understand what completing your mission requires you can refer to my mission templates
2.3: 7 Possible Missions You Can Choose
- Attract Your Avatar – generate new leads by creating a course to use as a lead magnet
- Streamline Your Service – free up time by creating a course to support the delivery of your main service
- Extend Your Reach – generate additional revenue by creating a course for people you can’t serve right now
- Automate Your Income – generate passive income by creating a course you can sell on autopilot
- Start Your Side Hustle – generate a side income by creating a course to sell in your spare time
- Monetise Your Audience – generate revenue by creating a course to sell to an existing audience (e.g., blog, podcast, etc.)
- Launch Your Startup – start and grow a new business based around an online course
2.4: Making Your Mission More Meaningful
- Important projects like creating a course are almost always driven by a surface reason and a deeper more motivating reason
- “Peeling the onion” is a way to discover your real motivation for creating a course by looking for the reason behind the reason
- You can keep yourself motivated on your journey by turn your reason into a vivid “reward” and finding a way to bring it regularly to mind
