In this assignment you’ll “reveal” your deeper reason for creating a course by digging into your underlying motivations.
Start by looking at the mission statement you created in the previous assignment and ask: “What’s really driving my desire to achieve that objective?”
Keep “peeling the onion” until you find the truly motivating reason that lies beneath the surface level reason for your mission.
Use the following template:
Achieving my mission will mean [Reason].
👇 Examples
- Achieving my mission will mean I can spend more time with my family instead of working such long hours.
- Achieving my mission will mean I am less dependent on my current job as a project manager, which will give me the freedom to look for other roles.
- Achieving my mission will mean I get greater recognition for the tools and processes I have created during my career.
- Achieving my mission will mean I can help more people escape the crushing weight of personal debt.
âž• Bonus Assignment!
Reframe your reason as a vivid reward, i.e., a specific future scenario or achievement that represents the fulfilment of your deeper reason.
Then find a way to keep that reward in your mind whenever you work on your course.
It could be an inspiring photo you put on your desk, or an inspiring image you use as your computer background. Or something else!
Example:
If your deeper reason for creating a course is to have more money to go on family holidays, you could find a picture of a luxury resort that you’d love to stay at and put it somewhere you can easily see it.
